Garden Leader Position for 2025
Mission:
Grow Local Colorado promotes equity, community, and sustainability. We do this by tending to 20 vegetable gardens located in the Denver Metro Area. The harvest from each of these gardens goes to communities in need. The gardens also demonstrate the beauty and bounty of vegetable gardens in our unique climate. We engage individuals and businesses in helping maintain these gardens.
Garden Leader Job Description:
Our ideal garden leader has a background in sustainable urban agriculture, community building, and a willingness to work with a variety of ages, interests, and personalities. This is an opportunity to connect with our urban agriculture community, a variety of volunteer groups, and local businesses while ensuring that fresh produce is shared with those in our community most in need.
Grow Local Colorado’s Garden Leader will work with our co-directors, interns on activities that include, but are not limited to:

Lead volunteers and volunteer groups in tending Grow Local’s sites, using sustainable practices, and sharing gardening knowledge.

Deliver produce to food relief organizations as directed by co-directors.

Report on garden progress and problems to GLC co-directors.

Care for garden sites as scheduled by co-directors.

Document gardens’ growth by tracking pounds harvested per garden and volunteer hours at the end of each month.

Share photos of plants, harvests and volunteers in the garden with the co-directors.

Research sustainable techniques for pest control, weather damage control, and other issues affecting the gardens.

Share information on social media.

Option to lead fruit gleaning efforts.
Skills Needed:

Well organized, self-motivated, creative, attention to detail, flexible, and excellent communication skills.

Ability to do outdoor, physically demanding work.

Transportation to and from Grow Local’s various garden sites. GLC is willing to provide a bus pass.

Comfortable in diverse settings and diverse communities.

A willingness to collaborate with the GLC directors, other garden leaders, interns, and volunteers.
Benefits:

$20-$22 per hour depending on experience. Approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Training in program planning, implementation, administration, regenerative agriculture, and community outreach.

Working for an organization that benefits diverse communities and our environment.

Hands-on experience on how to run a successful non-profit.

Organic produce.

Financial bonus at end of season if full season is completed. The bonus is dependent on hours and effort.
Timeframe & Hours:
May 17th – October 11th (we’re willing to work around potential conflicts for the right garden leader); 10-15 hours/week, flexible schedule including some evening and some weekend work.
