Meet The GLC Team

Barbara Masoner (she/her)
Barbara Masoner has been concerned about environmental issues since exploring Colorado's mountains as a child. This led her to study environmental sciences in college. Her various careers have involved educating people of all ages about caring for our planet. For the past ten years she has been GLC's logistics and volunteer coordinator. Her goal is to see as many vegetable gardens in our community as there were Victory Gardens during WWII.

Linda Kiker (she/her)
Linda began with us as a volunteer and now fills the role of co-director. Her previous work as a respiratory therapist and personal chef spanned 30 years. The move to retire from personal chef to gardener was motivated by her curiosity about growing food and the increasing concern over ongoing food waste amongst her clientele. Since finding GLC she’s fully stepped into a much larger and empowering food growing community. Finding ways to learn new skills in building healthy soil and developing a relationship with the environment that’s reciprocal has been life changing. Linda’s an enthusiastic garden leader who enjoys educating others on sustainable methods for growing their own food, is known to cook for her gardeners, saves seeds for the Denver Local Seed Project and leads fruit gleaning projects.

Holly Harper (she/her)
Holly Harper started home gardening many years ago. Part of the inspiration came from converting a friend's backyard from a weed patch to an edible garden. After a few successful seasons she was able to find her own space to grow in at a community garden closer to home.
Every season she works to find more sustainable options for gardening and strives to share resources with others as much as possible. This led to her taking a deeper dive into seed saving, composting, growing perennial plants, seeking out varieties that do best in our area, and regenerative crops to feed the soil. Her goal is to leave every space she can be involved in a better place than it was before.
Being able to share healthy food and knowledge with others is an absolute joy.

Allyson Rogers (she/her)
Allyson's mom instilled the importance of local farms in her while growing up in Georgia. Since then, Allyson has been passionate about local food and got to start her own garden in 2018. That blossomed into a large home garden for vegetable, fruit, and cut flower production, and in 2022 into a connection with Grow Local. As an engineer, Allyson loves structure and planning, and the garden provides opportunities for that as well as the necessary counterbalance of letting nature be in charge. Allyson also likes to promote sustainability and reducing waste and enjoys connecting with new and different people while working with GLC.

Ashton Turkaly (she/her)
Ashton grew up in the heart of the Colorado mountains and has always been deeply passionate about nature, gardening, and caring for plants. She also enjoys reading books, cooking healthy meals, and taking photos of the world around her.
As a social worker, Ashton focuses on engaging communities to work together and create change. With a newfound passion for food and climate sustainability, Ashton looks for creative ways to ensure that all individuals, regardless of identity, have access to safe, supportive, and impactful resources. She is very excited to work with Grow Local Colorado and the local community!

Sara Mahowald (she/her)
Sara began as a dedicated volunteer with GLC in 2021 and is now entering her first season as a Garden Leader. She brings a rich mix of practical skills and creative passion to the role, drawing from her experience as a certified Iyengar yoga teacher (CIYT), fiber artist, mender, fermenter, home cook, forager, and gardener.
Her love of growing food began in childhood, helping her parents in the family garden. In 2020, she built her first raised garden beds, deepening her commitment to growing food and developing gardening skills.
Sara is drawn to gardening as a powerful intersection of hands-on learning, long-term stewardship, and joy. She values how regenerative gardening practices contribute to healthy soil and carbon sequestration while also supporting local food security. As a Garden Leader, she's especially motivated by the opportunity to guide volunteers, engage community members, and support public education around food equity and sustainable growing practices.

Abby Beck (she/her)
Abby has fallen in love with Colorado’s flora, fauna, and people over the years she has spent gardening and exploring Colorado with her family. She sees a reciprocal relationship between humans, food, and nature as a crucial part of a healthy and happy community. As a college student studying Public Health, she is very passionate about the relationship between the environment and humans and how it pertains to health. As her passion for food sovereignty continues to grow, Abby loves to learn about sustainable gardening and the communities of Colorado. She is honored and excited to be a part of the Grow Local team!
